2002 GKI COMMUNITY BUILDERS PRIZE RECIPIENT
Dr. Michael Nobel
Dr. Michael Nobel was honored on April 7, 2003, at Morehouse College, Atlanta
as the second recipient of The Gandhi, King, Ikeda Community Builders Prize.
Dr. Nobel the Grand Nephew of Alfred Nobel, founder of the Nobel Prize, is
a leading advocate for peace initiatives throughout the world, including gathering
some seventy-five million signatures for the Manifesto 2000, a six part peace
pledge. Also the Chairman of the Appeal of the Nobel Peace Laureates for the
Children of The world, and the Nobel Family Foundation.
In Dr. Nobel’s acceptance speech, he spoke of healing
the wounds of September 11, 2001. He stated: “ If we choose to mark that
date in memory with a solemn vow to the children of the world to build a better
community, driven by culture of peace and nonviolence, then we will have helped
to change the course of history.”
Dr. Nobel is renowned for promoting non-violence education
among youth and for being a stanch supporter of international peace building
movements including United Nation's peace activities.
